An oil company discovered an oil reserve of 100 million barrels.?

An oil company discovered an oil reserve of 100 million barrels.?

For time t %26gt; 0, in years, the company鈥檚 extraction plan is a linear declining function of time as follows:

,

where q(t) is the rate of extraction of oil in millions of barrels per year at time t and b = 0.1 and a = 10.

(a) If it takes 10.6 years to exhaust the reserve and the oil price is a constant $20 per barrel, the extraction cost per barrel is a constant $10, and the market interest rate is 10% per year, compounded continuously. What is the present value of the company鈥檚 profit? An oil company discovered an oil reserve of 100 million barrels.?
The function q(a,b,t) for the extraction plan has disappeared from your question, so nobody can answer it for you.

Oil reserve?

The U.S. currently has around 700 million barrels of oil in reserve. Here's my question (it's sort of a ';what would we do';) situation.

What if all oil producing countries banded together to stop selling oil to the U.S.? Our country has to keep running, so I'm sure the government would release oil to be refined. But what happens from here? 700 million barrels would only last us about 2 months.

At this point, how would our military function? Wouldn't this be an opportune time for say China or Russia to wage a war on the U.S.?Oil reserve?
Actually 700 million barrels will only last us 34 days. Must likely 15 days, because everyone will to trying to hoard it. I think drilling here is not the answer. Use up all the others nations oil, then use ours. Greedy? yes, but thats america.Oil reserve?
Neither China or Russia has the means to wage a successful war on the USA. We have nukes, they have nukes, those nukes don't depend on a lot of oil to get the job done.

Plus, they can't send an invading force.

Why?

They don't have the means.

Why?

a big fat ocean.

.
Furthermore, I do not believe we have the ';refinery capacity';. We NEED to be drilling on our own lands (btw this does NOT harm our wildlife or environment like the wackos want us to believe), in our seabeds, coal to oil etc etc. We desperately need this in order to get us through UNTIL a cost effective, viable alternative(s) is up, running smoothly and gaining momentum.
If other countries stopped selling us oil, we would be forced to start drilling into our own oil fields in Alaska, Wyoming, etc... which contain trillions of barrels of oil. The environmentalists would have to just shut up and go away, which would be a good thing, and the country would continue to run.
basically we would have to start drilling on our own land which would no doubt start to piss a lot of people off but hey what can you do.. either that or they need to start figuring out a way now so we wont be so dependant on oil
As long as the Oil Producers can gouge us in prices it does not matter WHERE they get it-and they are in no hurry to develop an alternative fuel that would compete with their own profits. Dilling in the Alaska wildlife reserve and off our shores is a short term answer-does nothing to reduce our oil dependence-and contributes to the demise of the natural resources. Sort of like cutting off our own nose to spite our face. It is no longer supply and demand but ';speculation'; and stock purchases driving the prices. It is our Government stockpiling 70,000 barrels a day into the National oil reserve with is now filled to 97% capacity adding to the demand which-even with the oil reserve purchase-has dropped in the U.S.A. 17% lower then this time last year.

It is leverage to gain access to protected natural resources to continue their record breaking profits even longer and ignoring the needs of future generations. Oil prices will not go down as long as Bush is president. Those are his buddies that are profiting.

GOOD NEWS!

Senate votes to halt oil reserve shipments

By H. JOSEF HEBERT, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 32 minutes ago

The Senate, in a direct challenge to President Bush, voted Tuesday to temporarily halt the shipment of thousands of barrels of oil a day into the government's emergency reserve. Both Democrats and Republicans said such shipments make no sense when oil is costing more than $120 a barrel and could better be used to add supplies to a tight market and possibly lower prices.

';We are buying the most expensive crude oil in the history of the world and storing it,'; said Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D. ';When American consumers are burning at the stake by high energy prices, the government ought not be carrying the wood.';

Bush disapproves but said he will sign the bill.

Actually if I am reading your question right, you are correct if you are looking at the global oil use as a whole and not by nation. America has more than 40 years left based on just their use alone but not when you look at the world as a whole. If the-rs only 40years of oil left my be that makes it 25% oil-reserve left in America true or false?
this is false that there are only 40 years of oil left.the oil companies put out they same type of propaganda over and over again they have soooooo many fooled. If the-rs only 40years of oil left my be that makes it 25% oil-reserve left in America true or false?

How happy are you about this?!? How much of a decrease in gas prices in America do you think this may lead to? Brazil is part of OPEC, right? We need to straighten out our relations with Brazil and hopefully, gas can fall under $3 a gallon! 33 BILLION gallons!Huge oil reserve find?!?!?
If I were Brazil I'd hoard it just like the US is hoarding ours. I really don't see any reason for them share it with us. They are already far ahead of us as far as alternative fuels go though. I think 40% to 50% of the fuel come from sugar caine ethanol. It would be nice to see gas under 3 bucks a gallon. I would hold my breath though.Huge oil reserve find?!?!?
Brazil is not even a major producer! Lift the worthless sanction off Iran and cheaper oil is guaranteed for sure. There are other things you can do:

-Convince a few hundred million number of people to stop driving and watch oil companies fall apart

    -Strong US dollar=cheap commodities

If the US dollar doesn't start retaining its value, I don't freaking care if OPEC decides to ask for Euros in return for their barrels!

  • The Canadian Oil Reserve 8 Times Bigger than Saudy Arabia's?

All of a sudden, the oil sands in Alberta, Canada have become a veritable “black gold” mine. And Big Oil’s heavy hitters are wishing they acted sooner…

http://www.investmentu.net/ppc/t4oilnews…The Canadian Oil Reserve 8 Times Bigger than Saudy Arabia's?
Yes, with the price of oil up, oil sands in Canada (not oil shales, that's a different thing) have become economical to produce. It may surprise some readers to hear this, but on a country-by-country basis, the US now gets most of its foreign oil from Canada. Of course if one looks at the Middle East as a whole most of the foreign oil comes to the US from there, but only slightly more than Canada.

You may hear a lot in the news about oil companies announcing their ';proven reserves.'; This doesn't just mean the places where they know oil exists, but also whether it is technically or economically extractable. For instance, even if we knew that the Moon was full of oil, that wouldn't be considered a proven reserve because we have no way of extracting it, at least not yet.

The oil that is found in Saudi Arabia, and other places in the Middle East, is both easily extractable and easily refinable. Oil sands, like what is found in Canada, are fairly easy to extract (basically one just scoops up the sand and dumps it into trucks) but harder to refine. Back when oil was only twenty or thirty dollars a barrel it wasn't very profitable to mess with this form of oil. Now, with oil in the sixty- to seventy-dollar range, and with improvements in technology, it is.

Similarly, there are oil reserves under Venezuela, in the form of so-called ';tar oil,'; that are estimated to be five times the reserves in Saudi Arabia. The problem with this form of oil is that it is extremely thick, as the name implies, and therefore very hard to extract. It is also harder to refine than the Saudi crude, but the main problem is extraction.

Finally, the oil shales that several answerers mentioned exist but are both hard to extract and hard to refine. There are an estimated two to three TRILLION barrels (more than all the known reserves in the Middle East) of shale oil under the Rocky Mountains. But even with the price of oil as high as it is, it just isn't economically feasible to extract that oil, given our current technology.

With increasing demand for oil, particularly because of the burgeoning economies of India and China, the price of oil will probably continue to rise, and better technologies will be developed, so that the oil tars and oil shales may become profitable to extract. Either that, or better, more efficient, less polluting energy sources will be developed and the whole oil extraction and refining problem will become moot. The Canadian Oil Reserve 8 Times Bigger than Saudy Arabia's?
    lucky canadians
    i beleave its a lie
';Bajricf'; and ';chgoxpress'; are correct except for one thing: I don't think tar sands and shale oil are the same thing. They're chemically related of course, but they are still different substances.
Great. Between Canada and Colorado we're looking mighty good.

    I Cr 13;8a

    12-1-6
I hope this is true but most likely it's a bogus story...
Canada has the oil but it is oil shale which is much more costly to extract %26amp; process %26amp; was not cost effective when oil prices were lower but as prices rose so did the viability of the Canadian oil.

The U.S. also has large quantities oil shale.
    That would make Israel happy.

    Oil Reserve Video?

    Hi,

I saw a movie or Animation not long ago, in which a world map with reserves were showed, in billions of barrels, and slowed the number of years for when it was running out.

If anyone is aware of were i could find this i would be emensly pleased.

    ThanksOil Reserve Video?
I have heard this more than once, but so what, the environmentalist wacko`s won`t let anyone drill for oil.Oil Reserve Video?
    look on youtube.com.

    Oil reserve?

I read that Nancy Pelosi asked Bush to temporarily stop adding oil to the reserve. He refused saying he's doing that to add an additional level of security to the American people in case of a shortage. She said if he stops we can save 10-25 cents per gallon.

    What do you think..stop..or don't stop?Oil reserve?
10 - 25 cents?? big deal, one week later the price will go back up for some ';shortage'; or ';demand';. Why does demand raise the prices? We need to buy the gas whether it is cheap or expensive so what does raising the prices do besides hurt the working man. GREED. GREED. GREED.Oil reserve?
With a potential war with Iran possible, Bush is right on this one. Pelosi looks way to comfartable wearing her hijab.
stop, by now every penny counts....
We can save 5-25 cents. Don't change the article.
what difference will 25 cents make, that is one weeks oil rise.

It's sad to see someone buying the ';war for oil'; crapola hook line and sinker. It's almost as bad as the global warming sham.

If this were a war for oil gas would not be five bucks a gallon. It would be five CENTS a gallon. I mean really. How many Iraqi oil tankers have you seen in U.S ports?

But it's pointless to try to pound common sense into people like you. It's an absolute waste of time. You have to have an open mind to be receptive to other people's opinions. Especially when those opinions are backed with facts.

I know I know. You can't be bothered with the truth, facts, common sense and rational thought. Right?

Have you thought about the fact that your son joined out of a sense of pride and patriotism? And to get away from you so you don't poison his mind with your rubbish?
85% of Iraqi oil production is under contract to Compagnie Petrol De Francais. That arrangement has been in effect since well before we invaded and deposed the Ba'athist regime of Saddam Hussein.

There are currently over 100,00 members of the National Guard and Reserves who have been mobilized in the war on terrorism. Some are assigned to Operation Iraqi Freedom, some to Operation Enduring Freedom and some to Operation Noble Eagle (the defense of the homeland).

So, in short, it is a stretch to say our involvement in Iraq is about getting oil and an even bigger stretch to assume that your son will be in combat in Iraq.

Thank him for his decision to serve.
    I am sorry.

Sorry that you do not see reality the same as your son.

Sorry that your son has seen the big picture, and you only have the kool aid to offer him when he is thirsty for the truth.

Sorry that you do not believe the thousands and thousands of the testimony's of soldiers coming home and saying what we are doing over there is worth it.

Sorry that this ';oil'; issue is bigger to you than the truth.

PS. Thank you son for understanding 9-11, global terrorist and genocide.
Why don't you ask your son why he doesn't believe his Mother when she says it's ALL about oil. In here you are only going to get a soundbite agreeing or disagreeing with you. If you talk to him maybe you can at least reach an understanding of why he joined the service.

Your beef starts with your son for disobeying your wishes. Ask him. Find out why he did what he did. I'd like to hear his side of the story.
I think if we were fighting for oil, it would be a little cheaper than it is today! We are in Iraq to simple restore its Government and its security. We wouldn't be fighting anyone it wasn't for Iran being beside of it who's people don't want us to restore Iraq because Iran and Iraq had major issues with each other in the past. They are called Insurgeants!!!!
I thank your son sincerely for his service.

I believe that oil was not the reason for going, but it certainly was a factor. My only hope is that your son returns safely to you, and that all of America can be proud of his accomplishments.

I shall keep you and your son, all service members, and the spouses, children and parents of all who serve, in all my prayers.
Seems like every neo-con has come out to rant at this question.

It is about oil, but that means ownership of it by huge oil conglomerates. The US army wages it's wars for big business.

The US ruling elite love dictators, as long as they are compliant to big business. The bogus claim of overthrowing a dictator is a lie. If that was the reason, then they would have overthrown Somosa, Ferdinand Marcos, Pinochet, Saddam Hussein (1980's); when in fact the USA SUPPORTED all these dictators. The biggest mistake a dictator can make is to not allow big corporations to take ownership of their economy. When that happens, the support stops and the war starts.

Let him do his job and don't fill his head with all of your nonsense, he has to focus on what he is doing. My children aren't over there fighting seeing as i don't have children, but my husband has gone, and several other family members have gone. I am proud of them all and everyone else who is serving their country, including your son!
i think your son is a braver person than you...my husband has served the last 19 plus years and has been there three times looking at another trip at christmas time ...add that up it was long before the stuff in iraq and that part of the world happened...your son knew about the conflict in that area and should know by now that he will go if told too...so you can assume its for oil but ask your son why he joined...
Good for him. Glad he didn't drink his mother's kook-aid.

I for one do NOT believe this war is about oil. However, it would be a waste of my valuable time to try to explain it to you.

If YOU think it is about oil, then write to your leaders in the Congress and your fool Obama and tell them to allow us to use our own oil. But you and your other Liberal friends believe the Caribou are more important than our soldiers.
War for oil? Why do people still believe this idiocy? What's it based on?

While it is the oil in the Middle East and the free flow of petroleum that makes it strategically important to the US and the rest of the industrialized world, as it has been for decades, that does not mean this war was ';for oil';. That's simply absurd.

Apparently, your son doesn't agree with you. I honor his commitment.
Oh, my goodness, another Cindy Sheehan! I most certainly hope YOUR son doesn't have to sacrifice his life in order for you to rise in the liberal hierarchy!

Your son joined the military and will stand and fight for FREEDOM; something that liberals obviously won't attempt to wrap their minds around - until you lose it. Perhaps if your Muslim buddy, Obama, wins the election you will get the ';change'; you desire.

God bless your son for his service to our country.
first of all its operation iraqi freedom not liberation and im tired of liberals not using indepth arguments about the war and instead just call it right wing bs, neocon bs, and all about oil

BTW - my son is deployed in Iraq and I served a tour there myself.
it's good to know we have people like your son in our armed forces, that have not fallen for the lefts spin like you have that it is about oil. may i suggest you open your eyes and look to your son for guidance, because you have failed both him and yourself. thankfully he was able to use his own means to understand what is happening in the real world.
Well Mrs. surprise me and tell me you son was drafted.......

Its Americans like him that make this country great do not dishonor his choices with questions like this.........

he volunteered to serve his country and the worse thing you could do right now is go against what he believes in

HaHa....it's OIF....Operation Iraqi Freedom......that's funny......not my child but my husband is over there and I can guarantee that it is not about oil.......I'm not sure what path you are on but it is a misinformed and ignorant one
COnsidering the fact that we have always gotten less than 10 percent of our oil from Iraq and most of our oil comes from Canada, wouldnt it have been easier to ';invade'; Canada instead? The argument that the war is about oil just does not make any sense at all.
not my kids but my husband and my brother and numerous other friends. good thing you live in american and can say things like that and speak out against the government,,,,in some countries you could be put to DEATH for speaking against the government. places like IRAQ.
Wow, I'm surprised you son still talks to you if this is the kind of support you provide him.

Also, if this was a war about oil, why would we be in places like Ramadi or Falluja, which have absolutely zero oil?
ok, how about you start supporting your son instead of whining about a war that you obviously know nothing about.

i love how people think they know everything about this war when they are not serving in it and have no proof.
Beginning a sentence with OK destroys your question. Or, are you just a teen liberal? And, this is not ';sarcasm';.
Don't worry, we will make great use of your son in the fight for oil! he will protect OUR money with HIS life, and then we will thank you by allowing you to PAY US for driving to work. In the end you will be naught but a distraught shell of a human being... thank you for sacrificing yourself for our PROFIT =).
Of course it's about oil, we've proven that last week. My son is going soon, too. And politically he's against the war, but loves his country.
My son also joined the reserves against my advice. I join you in hopes of a quick end to that misguided conflict.
We appreciate your son's willingness to defend us and frown upon this administration's willingness to sacrifice our soldiers out of greed and based on lies.

  • Why do they say oil prices are rising with the supply that is needed? Our reserves are at 98% thats not enough

Didnt the man in the white house have a meeting with the king last week and the king said he sees no reason to increase production because we are at 97-98% on our reserves.. Whats the truth here? Then all the oil ceos are in these meetings and have made profits in the first quater for as much as they made all last year. I think it would be great to just shut down america for a whole week once. No buying of gasoline, disel or food and see how that works out. Food we purchase has, the clothing and thing it is all regulated but the price of oil. Shut it down for a week and maybe that would make a good statement for someone to step up and get all the questions anwsered to why we are paying so much for oil.Why do they say oil prices are rising with the supply that is needed? Our reserves are at 98% thats not enough
I agree, in part, with a boycott. It worked for the farmers in Belgium when they parked their diesel combines on the Freeway. However, the problem is larger than just our government and the US oil demands. The part of the problem we can't fix is the high demand from China and India.

    ';In 2008 China , India , Russia and the Middle East for the first time will consume more crude oil than the U.S. , burning 20.67 million barrels a day this year, an increase of 4.4 percent over year earlier levels, according to the International Energy Agency. U.S. demand will contract 2 percent to 20.38 million barrels daily, the IEA forecast. (Bloomberg)';

http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/ieo/oil.htmlWhy do they say oil prices are rising with the supply that is needed? Our reserves are at 98% thats not enough
World demand is increasing. Refining capacity has not kept up with the increase in demand.

Your suggestion to stop using petroleum for a week is one of the most absurd suggestions I've heard in my entire life. The grocery stores would be empty after four days.

Of course, this might be a solution to the obesity problem.
Our oil reserve has NOTHING to do with the amount of oil on the market. The oil reserve is oil that is owned by the government that they use in times of emergencies. Food and Clothing prices are not regulated ,where do you get this stuff???
It has absolutely nothing to do with supply and demand.

    http://www.usatoday.com/money/energy/200鈥?/a>
The Government has nothing to do with the price of oil. How about we all slow down to 55 for a month. Then we won't need as much gas, Lets try it.
Reserves aren't meant to be primary sources, they are just what they are called... ';reserves';. Good luck with that ';shut it down'; thing, something tells me it won't work.
Watch CNBC once in a while and you might learn something about economics. Stop watching American Idol.
the reserves will only last about a week,.

Knowing the vast oil reserve we have, should we not use only ours, then after changes, resume buying other's?

The liberal environmentalists won't LET us drill in Anwar - a tundra - not a huge Eco system like a rain forest

They have also just found a HUGE oil reserve off shore in the Gulf of Mexico. Let's see how the liberal environmentalist stop us there.

Are they the same ones who blame this current war on OIL? LET US DRILL HERE IDIOTS...Knowing the vast oil reserve we have, should we not use only ours, then after changes, resume buying other's?
We use over 20 million barrels of oil every day. we can't pull that much out of the ground that fast. We could grow enough but that's not on Georgie's agenda (trees and hemp don't feed his fat a$$ oil buddies).

But remember this, every time you fill up, you're supporting terrorism because GWB doesn't care about the US or us or terrorism he only cares about how the world will remember him.Knowing the vast oil reserve we have, should we not use only ours, then after changes, resume buying other's?
Neither. That oil is the lubrication which the tectonic plates move on. What do you think fills that space when we extract all that oil?

Hydro-electric is the way to go. They already have them now. They are cheaper to buy and run on water and a battery.
Our government needs to get out of bed with the oil companies and stop delaying alternative energy research. We have the ways, means, and technology. We are falling behind the rest of the world strictly for the benefit of oil company profits.
The key word is reserve, we need to maintain a reserve that will enable us to operate the longest time without foreign oil.

If Oil was sooo Cheap under Bill Clinton Why did he feel it was Not and tap the National reserves?

Sorry Oil prices have been High since the Carter Administration So stop Lying that it was alll GW's fault Grow up please...If Oil was sooo Cheap under Bill Clinton Why did he feel it was Not and tap the National reserves?
Now I know that the liberal Democrats don't want to hear

this but I'm not here to please anyone.

A majority of the federal petroleum reserves were sold off

by, then VP Al Gore, at below market value to Occidental

    Petroleum.

So the Bush administration was left with a deficit in the

    reserves at the beginning.

One final note Al Gore Sr, he worked for Occidental Petroleum,

Seems that Bush is not the ONLY big Oil man, check

    the link you liberals,

But please don't worry, I heard that the Democrats were

going to FIX the problem if they got the majority of

the house and senate.....If Oil was sooo Cheap under Bill Clinton Why did he feel it was Not and tap the National reserves?
Just look at the $ value since Bush took office!
Oil prices have experienced price increases by some 300% + since Bush took office.
his economy was starting to tank......thank god the dot com bubble bailed him out......
A president can tap the reserves to help lower the price of gas, not the price per barrel of oil.

Bush is the first president in the History of the US to refuse to open the reserves to drop gas prices. Yet, Bush freely loans out of the reserves to his oil company cronies. So, yes, Americans can blame Bush for the gas prices because he could do something but, oil companies profits take precedence over the American people.
$1/ gal; is a lot cheaper than $3.50/ gal

    ARE YOU STUPID?

Obviously anyone that owns OIL companies has made a HUGE profit on the U.S.

Tell me it is Not the President's call on how much gas is?

CLINTON kept prices down to under $1 / gal!!!!!!!!!!

BUSH has pressed it up to over $3/ gal.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
he didn't according to your source. while your blaming carter(who i hated at the time),carter built up reserves and the oil problems began when nixon was in. try a little research instead of telling others to grow up. what you and others fail to realize, presidents get blame/credit for things they have little if any control over.
Great work Thorgirl, I hope I can trust in your vote.
Bill Clinton would ';tap'; a hole in a tree if he was horny.

Is it true that Americas oil reserve is now only 25% left and cant make up short fall?

Depends on who you are talking to. I've heard we are sitting on enough to last generations. The gulf of Mexico is loaded with oil, Alaska, Colorado. So who knows what the real truth is.Is it true that Americas oil reserve is now only 25% left and cant make up short fall?
If the oil reserve was being used at all, it would make huge headlines. Is it true that Americas oil reserve is now only 25% left and cant make up short fall?
No. It is like 97% or 98% full. I don't know where you came up with that.
There is plenty of oil in this country, but we would rather use oil from foreign sources first, save ours for last. The oil will last for another 150 years, but will not be cheap.
    Yes
    no,,, thats not true
NO!!! You have been listening to communist propaganda!!!!
no that's not true the government just wants everyone to think they are running out of oil which is b/s. the government has enough oil to last another 40 years or more
THeir is more oil now than their has ever been before. we have 6 times the oil in the world now than we did 6 years ago. We are paying so much because people are scared.no the reserves are all but full

Bleach in car's motor oil reserve?

My ex put bleach in with the oil to spite me. He told me yesterday... It was a small bottle (I think 2 quarts)

Read the engine will die. True? How long will that take? Can I fix this?Bleach in car's motor oil reserve?
Do you have a witness to his confession? If not, you need to get him to admit it on voicemail or in front of someone because he's going to buy you an engine! The damage that is done at this point is unmeasurable. He's an *** %26amp; he needs a good beating!!

Get the OIL %26amp; FILTER changed now ( if no problems in 500 miles, change it again!) %26amp; NO FLUSH CRAP!! No more stuff into the engine than OIL!! His defense in court will be that the engine flush chemicals caused the engine problems.

    Good Luck!!!

    Kapn-';Thumbs up';Bleach in car's motor oil reserve?
you need to have your oil drained and your motor flushed immediatley....good luck
Don't even drive your car at all,if you haven't already... Bleach will kill an engine in just a couple minute... Change the oil where it sits, don't drive it anywhere to have it changed...
You better change the oil right away! I saw on a show called Mythbusters that bleach breaks down the oil.
Do not drive the car any longer...have it towed to the shop for a flush and filer change...do it now...bleach is corrosive and will pit the cylinders and the interior surfaces of your engine.

2 quarts is not a small amount...that's half of a complete oil change....get off your computer and get your car in right away.

Then take a sample of the oil and have it analyzed then press charges on the jerk.

Is there current technology to drill for oil in the huge reserve in the rocky mountians?

The Rocky Mountains oil option is not the type that can be drilled and gush out geysers. This oil is trapped inside rock formation (shale to be specific). So like the oil sands in Canada, squeezing oil from a rock is not going to be cost effective at this time.

Why is the federal reserve not boosting interest rates? A low dollar value = high oil prices?

Now that the dollar is getting stronger, the price of oil is starting to fall. Why is the Federal Reserve keeping interest rates low? We need a stronger dollar vs. world currency to reduce the impact of the cost of oil on our gasoline prices.

Also why is Nancy Pelosi refusing to allow us to drill for oil in the outer continental shelf? Is she too tied to the environmental movement to see the obvious that we need to use our own supplies vs. buying oil from countries hostile to the USA?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080815/ap_o鈥?/a>Why is the federal reserve not boosting interest rates? A low dollar value = high oil prices?

If you have a degree in economics, you may wish to consider asking for a refund on tuition. There is nothing sacred about a stronger dollar. Some businesses actually benefit from a lower dollar.

If the gasoline prices are too high for you, don't buy gasoline.

Nancy Pelosi is the queen ditz. There is nothing else to say about her.
Because the economy is still sluggish. If they raise rates, the already weak stock market will decline even further.

Is it true that USA has started drilling for oil in colarado/utah which has a reserve of 1.2 trillion barrels?

You are not referring to ';drilling'; - it is more like mining.

Specifically, you are referring to the experimental oil-shale project. The BLM is still considering proposals for small-scale R%26amp;D leases that may start this summer.

Estimates of domestic shale oil reserves range from 1-2.5 trilliion barrels. But it will be years before commercial development - if that even ever occurs. Is it true that USA has started drilling for oil in colarado/utah which has a reserve of 1.2 trillion barrels?
    No.

There are 1.8 Trillion Barrels of Oil Reserves in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming on private lands (20%) and federal lands (80%)

However, that Oil is never going to be drilled (Unless there is war with Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Nigeria, Angola, Ecuador, Algeria, Kuwait, United Kingdom, Colombia, Brazil, Chad or Trinidad and Tobago)

This will never end until the democrats stop it. And by the looks of it they never will.

So my question for the democrats in congress is this (they said it when the Republicans were in power) what are they going to do about gas prices. Other then tax the oil companies, who will move over seas because they are taxed so much.

So plastic face polosi and dingy harry, what are you doing about gas prices. To get elected you said you would lower them and all they did was go up.

Oil is leaking into my coolant reserve tank, but water is not mixing with oil. What's the next move?

It's a 98 Honda Accord LX with 242,000 miles. I've been told it's a blown head gasket, but there's no water mist coming from the exhaust. Two weeks ago, a hose burst, and was changed. Two days later the mixture in the topped the radiator and the reserve tank and ran hot. Next day a shop replaced the radiator cap and I have been able to drive the car without overheating, but the mixture was still there. Recently the shop flushed the radiator, cleaned the reserve tank and applied engine/coolant sealant. The next day the mixture came backOil is leaking into my coolant reserve tank, but water is not mixing with oil. What's the next move?
If it's a automatic it could be a trans cooling tank inside the radiator failed, but I would have it checked by another shop. Head gasket failure doesn't always steam out the tail pipe! Stop leak in a cooling system can also look like oil depending on the brand.Oil is leaking into my coolant reserve tank, but water is not mixing with oil. What's the next move?
They may not have purged the air out of the system. There is usually one or two valves along your cooling system that allows you to get the air out of the lines. It looks like a nipple with a hex head. The mechanic may not of done his job correctly or fully and didn't purge the air out of the system. Try another shop and see what they say.
Cracked head or blown gasket. Coolant does not have to be leaking into a cylinder bore. There are oil and coolant passages through the gasket from the block to the head. Could be a leak between them.
Head gasket doesn't have to be blown, just a hairline crack in the gasket will push oil into your coolant. Go for a pressure test.

Global warming, economic crisis, reducing oil reserve, rising gas prices: Is there any hope?

I'm depressed: I just saw a documentary on how crude oil is running out, and how global warming is happening way faster than expected. I then went to put gas that was about $3.80/ a gallon. And then are economy sucks on top of that. Is there any hope for us? the human race? the world?Global warming, economic crisis, reducing oil reserve, rising gas prices: Is there any hope?
    The world is ALWAYS 'ending'.

When I was a teenager, AIDS was the 'great plague' that was going to wipe everyone out. The horrible 'wasting disease' that came from monkeys was spreading like wildfire and if you used the wrong toilet seat - that's it. Game over for you!

When I was a kid, nuclear bombs were going to destroy us all. No way to avoid it.

When my mother was a kid, the Cuban missile crisis was going to explode and everyone was going to die, at any time. They practiced 'drills' in the schools; line the kids up in the hallway and have them cover their heads. People sunk thousands into bomb shelters.

When my grandmother was a kid, the Great Depression was it. Everyone was going to starve. No work anywhere. We would all languish and die.

The stock market crash in 1929 had people jumping off the roofs of buildings. The world was OVER, I tell you.

Civil war, the ****** are loose! Society is lost..

The great plague in England, thousands upon thousands dying horribly for no apparent reason. ';The end is nigh, bring out your dead';..

How do you think the Romans felt when Rome fell? Bet you any money they thought civilization was OVER.

Humans are spectacular because they adjust. We use our mighty brains to figure out a way to stop the flood BEFORE we ALL drown.

Usually, it takes a lot of death, illness, poverty, and destruction

before we change - but the ones that live on, live on.Global warming, economic crisis, reducing oil reserve, rising gas prices: Is there any hope?
That is so much BS. They like to use the term proven reserves will run out in 30 years or some such nonsense. As prices rise the reserves increase because it is defined as that which can be produced at market prices. They are finding new fields all the time. A huge find was made in the Dakotas and Brazil in the last few years. The find in the Dakotas was known about but it was much larger than expected, something like 10 times more than the rest of the US reserve combined. High prices will make alternatives more available and with luck some better system than burning food will emerge. Don't be so down, this is nothing compared to the crisis mentality of the 1970's.
Global warming, economic crisis, reducing oil reserve, rising gas prices: Is there any hope?

Well, when I was in college in the seventies, It was Global Cooling that was going to get us. We were in an ';economic crisis';--as we always seem to be if you're a democrat--republicans just ignore it and go to work. I was told by my esteemed geology professors that we'd be out of oil in the year 2000 and gas prices had just gone from 35 cents a gallon to $1.35.

    I didn't listen to them.

I suggest you do the same and then 35 years from now you can tell the same story.
A compiled list of all the sources can be seen here. The total amount of cooling ranges from 0.65C up to 0.75C -- a value large enough to wipe out most of the warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year's time. For all four sources, it's the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down.

We have more oil in Colorado and Utah than all OPEC countries combined. WOW you must have seen a movie the Democrats made. According to the 2005 Federal Energy Budget we have enough oil to supply the world for 500 years just in Colorado and Utah. Just do a little homework on oil shale. Oh about 2 trillion barrels. The world as used only 18% world known oil and thats without including the shale mentioned above. Jimmy Carter said in 1976 that we would be out of oil by the end of the next decade. (which would be 1989)
Yes, read the Bible and know that God is in control.

But while we do that we should / and know:

There is no oil shortage, any shortage is artificial. There are vast reserves in the US.

There is no such thing as man causing global warming, and I'm still not convinced about natural global warming.

The only hope meanwhile is to elect a President that has the guts to stand up to enemies and make honest and wise choices and judgements. Not based on what people want so much as what is moral and right, and what works. Let the free markets reign, don't punish people for starting businesses, develop technologies, and help the US become a manufacturing nation instead of millions of people with degrees who can't find work.
Yes there is hope if we all work together, don't drive as much and fuel up less often, don't buy things made of plastic, the less we use things that muck up the environment, and learn to conserve on fuel, electricity, and whatever, the more we will be doing good for this earth that has taken care of us for so long and we can save her.
Rickshaws. I've been saying it all along. It'd give millions of people jobs, decrease obesity, 100% clean fuel, and we all know it'd be hilarious to sit in a cart while some random skinny guy pulls you like he would a king.

It's no wonder China's economy is on the rise.
Our hope rests in the Bible. I'm not gonna get preachy, just check out www.raptureready.com, if you want to find out how this all plays a part. There is something there called the Rapture Index. Check it out. God bless.

from your country and your oil...Is the US going to rape Bazil next since they have a possible third largest reserve of oil under them?
if they can they will no doubt!!
If you can supply proof that the US is taking oil from anyone, I'll acknowledge it in every post I make here for a month. Remember, some copy and paste quote from some blowhard left wing blog is not proof. Neither is some insubstantial editorial from CNN or NBC etc.... I can say that because it's not happening, therefore there is no proof, just far fetched opinion. Opinions are like...Oh, never mind.
I like how idiots think we went into Iraq for oil yet Iraqis aren't even using their own oil to pay for reconstruction costs, let alone ';giving'; it to us.
    No......

But I am SURE we will send the most donations of any country to whoever has the next natural disaster... But, somehow we are ALWAYS the bad guys...?!
The United States is going to do what is in the best interest of The United States, just like ANY other country. Does anyone really think that any country, will give aid without it serving a purpose for themselves. So when the US brokers a deal with Brazil of course everyone is going to say the US is evil and selfish and whatever nonsense they can come up but the truth is EVERY country would do the same if they could. They are just upset cause they can't. Just like the Yankees, everyone hates them because they can buy whoever they want. Com'on Canada, you know you wish you could too...
We have Alaska. If Congress decides to lets us drill up there, then oil prices will plummet and we wouldn't have a need. But if they don't watch out. ;)

    saudi arabia
The answer is the united states of america. We have a huge reserve we just don't use it. It's not until we buy out all the worlds oil that will will tap our own reserve.
    Saudi Arabia
No one knows for absolute. However, most people agree that it is probably Saudi Arabia. Of course, USA has quite a bit in Alaska, possibly more than is being admitted to. Countries don't like to say, since it is a strategic question.
Before the melt-down it used to be the old USSR, Soviet Russia, and I'm guessing that the new country of Russia still has the edge.

Name a western colorado oil reserve?

Hidden beneath 1,000 feet of rock in the Rocky Mountains, lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world-more than 2 TRILLION barrels.

On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction.Name a western colorado oil reserve?
That would be the shale oils. The main problem with shale oils is that shale has high porosity (pore space) and low permeability (connectivity of those pores). In order to extract the oil the shale has to be fractured, which increases the permeability. In the 1980's, several US oil companies tried to produce oil from shales, and they gave it up due to the high cost. Maybe when oil goes to $200/barrel it will be economically feasible to produce oil this way.Name a western colorado oil reserve?

Iran sits on the worlds 2nd largest oil reserve, so why would they be developing nuclear power for energy?

Isn't that sort of like plowing over your corn field to build a baseball stadium? If they build it will Allah come?Iran sits on the worlds 2nd largest oil reserve, so why would they be developing nuclear power for energy?
obviously they're becoming nuclear capable so they get to play with the big boys.

I shudder to think of how Iran would operate if they were able to threaten everyone with a nuclear weapon. They'd essentially hold the world hostage every time they wanted something.

Instead of playing cowboy in a country who poses 0 threat to us, why haven't we concentrated on the Iran's and N. Korea's of the world?Iran sits on the worlds 2nd largest oil reserve, so why would they be developing nuclear power for energy?
They need nuclear power because even though they have alot of oil, they don't have the refinery capacity to produce it-like us. They still import over 50% of their gasoline. That being said, I believe they want to be a middle east power broker and want a nuclear bomb to threaten or destroy Israel-at the very least to push their weight around. They are trouble makers in Lebanon, Gaza and Iraq as well.
    Maybe they want to diversify?

Maybe they could find better ways to diversify?
As I'm sure you realize, Iran has no interest in nuclear power generation. Neither did Iraq. Iraq was %26amp; Iran is only interested in producing nuclear weapons. That must not be allowed to happen.
Iran's oil is very difficult to get out of the ground. Only three countries make the equipment the U.S., Canada and Japan. Their oil is worthless if they can't get it out of the ground.
Nuclear energy is cleaner and more cost-effective than oil.
    thats a good point
Because it's better for the environment.
Better question. Why are they rationing gasoline ?
well according to their president . . .

it is so they can destroy Israel

    %26amp; bomb US
As much as i despise Iran, the honest to God truth is they don't have the technological capabilities to process their crude oil. Their oil also isn't very high quality and without advanced refining techniques yields little more than kerosene (sp).

That's why Russia is trying to sell them their energy and the U.S. government backs this proposal, we know they can't refine their own oil.
If they use nuclear for their own power needs, they can SELL more oil to the rest of the world ! They need the money.
Anyone who really thinks that Iran is only after energy is an idiot. Iran wants to have atomic weapons so that they can begin Islamic Jihad
No. They do not have oil refineries. So they import most of their oil.
    ummm *cough cough* yeah for ';energy';
for the same reason Canada uses nuclear energy. Canada sits on tons of oil in the form of tar sands, but wishes to reduce the amount used domestically , leaving more for the international markets. Iran being no fool, wishes to use less domestically freeing up more for the international markets.

It has nothing to do with corn fields, the American sport of baseball, or God. It's not natural within the natural law, it's man-made.

But it is ';natural'; within current economic law. The profit motive harms the environment because environmental externalities are not included in the price mechanism.Global warming... a natural evolution or government plot for easy access to the arctic oil reserve?
Natural evolution and a plot by leftists to undermine national soveriegnty in order to achieve a global government and wealth redistribution aparatus
    All of the Above.
    Another right wing conspiracy theory...

Because the artic cap IS melting, nations are interested in laying claims to oil reserves. Please advise of your conspiracy? Nations are melting the cap on purpose?
I'll take option number two, please.

';Is All Oil Derived from Dinosaurs? If so, how many dinos comprise these vast reserves?';?

The current theory says that oil is ';the product of compression and heating of ancient organic materials over geological time.'; It also says that very few dinosaurs were compressed into oil.

The idea that dinosaurs are made into oil might come from the observation that prehistoric animals are sometimes preserved in tar pits.';Is All Oil Derived from Dinosaurs? If so, how many dinos comprise these vast reserves?';?
Start dinging in your back yard they may be black gold';Is All Oil Derived from Dinosaurs? If so, how many dinos comprise these vast reserves?';?
No it's not the dinos it's the biomass, the trees and vegatation.
Actually the latest theory is that the source is not organic at all - which might explain why proven reserves are at an all time high.

  • Why can't we have access to our oil reserve .........?

and I know this will bring the price of gasoline down about half. Why can't we have access to our oil reserve .........?
Oil reserves are stored in case the oil runs out.

Now, they could use the oil reserves to offset the current high prices, but to maintain the reserves they would have to refill them at the current high prices. Which means, they would have to sell the oil reserve to you at the same high price, plus the cost of storage, making the price even higher.

So the only way they could sell the oil reserves to you at a lower price would be to deplete the reserves, hoping the prices will drop later, when they could fill them up.Why can't we have access to our oil reserve .........?
There is no need to use the reserve just because inflation has raised the price of gasoline. All prices go up. To try and regulate the economy is socialism and it will fail. The rise in the price of gasoline is no higher than the rise of anything else we buy. It's just that gasoline stays stable for long periods and then jumps up all at once. Rather than just going up a little at a time like other things. So it is noticeable and winds people all up.
The oil reserves are for emergency only. High gas prices are not worthy of tapping our reserves. So they say.
we need it to fight the final battle of Armageddon.

With Oil so low why doesn't the U.S. fill up it's Strategic Oil reserve now? ?

If Oil goes back up again in price, we'll be left without insurance. With Oil so low why doesn't the U.S. fill up it's Strategic Oil reserve now? ?
The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is near capacity now.

The current inventory is 702 million Barrels. The total capacity is 727 million barrels. On going maintenance or other issues may prevent total capacity at this time.

There are plans for future expansion of the system to allow more capacity, but this will take a while. With Oil so low why doesn't the U.S. fill up it's Strategic Oil reserve now? ?
They can't, because back in May, the senate voted to suspend the 70,000 barrel per day shipment of petroleum to the emergency reserve in hopes of lowering gas prices. The move was supported by Bush. It's set to resume at the end of 2008, but we're approaching the end of 2008 and they seem to have forgotten about it *rolls eyes*
The oil reserve is already at a record and near the full capacity of 727 million barrels. Right now there is 707.4 million barrels. Other countries could start creating their oil reserves. China started one during the height of the oil crises.
    WHY DO YOU THINK WE ARE IN IRAQ! Yes we are running low on oil. The main reason other than liberation that we are in Iraq is to maintain oil. If we successfully take hold of oil tanks in Iraq, Gas prices will dramatically decrease therefor improving the economy%26gt;
We already have, enough supply for 6 months to a year in case of an emergency.

It's kept in the lime stone mountains in the northern Alaska.

    Regards.
President Bush will do it if it's in HIS interests, afterall we wouldn't want King George to get low on funds.
Now would be time. Hard to understand why Bush had to start buying foreign oil for the strategic reserves LAST year....
We're waiting for the oil companies to give out free NFL team glasses with every fill-up.
Sounds like a good idea to me.

I would hope that they are.

Why not open up our oil reserve?

Bush mentioned doing just that, right after Katrina. Fuel prices are a lot higher now than then. So, why has nobody mentioned it?Why not open up our oil reserve?
Sigh. So many people just don't get it.

The oil reserves are controlled by American oil companies. American oil companies also control the oil in Iraq, and the rest of the nations are scared of them. Let me explain something.

    THE AMERICAN OIL COMPANIES

D*O*N*T W*A*N*T us to pay less for oil and gas!

They want us to pay MORE for the oil and gas!

They want to SCARE us into giving them more places to drill. This allows them to make more profits, while charging us even HIGHER prices.

It's not supply, demand. It's gouging. Why not open up our oil reserve?
Because there is only enough oil in the SPR to last for about 34 days.

What happens then? Do you think that 750million barrels of oil on the market will suddenly drop the price enough that it will be cheaper to re-fill the SPR, and all will be well at the end of 30 days?

Why not just open up our oil reserves to drilling.

EDIT: Why the thumbs down? Here is the proof.

The current inventory is displayed on the SPR's website. As of July 15, 2008, the current inventory was 706.2 million barrels (112,280,000 m鲁). At current market prices ($145 a barrel) the SPR holds over $38.7 billion in sweet crude and approximately $50.9 billion in sour crude (assuming a $15/barrel discount for sulphur content). The total value of the crude in the SPR is approximately $89.6 billion USD. This equates to 33 days of oil at current daily US consumption levels of 21 million barrels a day.

According to the World Factbook[5], the United States imports a net 12 million barrels (1,900,000 m鲁) of oil a day (MMbd), so the SPR holds about a 58-day supply. However, the maximum total withdrawal capability from the SPR is only 4.4 million barrels (700,000 m鲁) per day, making it a 160 + day supply.

This entire matter is getting quite sickening!!!

We just have to hold onto all the oil we can... for as long as we can... until there is no longer a need for a barrel, or a CAN of oil!

Of course, there is not enough oil in our reserve to sustain America for long, however - if we don't use it, maybe we will lose it! Or, maybe we'll have a different kind of ';Boston Tea Party'; and, the men, (disguised as Oil Barons) will dump ALL the oil out onto the ground!!
The oil reserves won't make much of a difference, we're too dependent on fossil fuels.

We have a lot of land in this country and should be using agricultural resources to replace fuel. One plant that would take care of it all is industrial hemp, but because it's related to the smoking hemp, they can keep it illegal and not let us use it.
Democrats did, and only 10% of the reserve (got that? you Hannidiotsd?) Republicans screwed us for their agenda. It's ENTIRELY appropriate to use this reserve, as price spike was brought about mostly by speculators.
for the millionth time, those are for EMERGENCIES, like if the Arabs cut us off, or someone blew up a huge oil field.

If we use it now it will not be here for that.
It is for Emergencies only. If 'they' know we used emergency supply and prices are this high ... bend over.
I thought he did... heard a passing mention in the news a month or so ago... now sure if it was in talks though or offical...
the oil reserves are for in case of emergency, or war
It's for a rainy day. It's not raining now, just slightly cloudy.

What is the average price per barrell of the oil stored in the strategic petroleum reserve?

The average purchase price in the Strategic Reserve is $27.73 per barrel.

The sale price is based on current market conditions and is done via a bid process. In the last instance of oil being released from Strategic Reserve (after Hurricane Katrina), the price per barrel sold ranged from $63.1738 to $66.0139.What is the average price per barrell of the oil stored in the strategic petroleum reserve?
You need to be more specific.

Purchase price at the time it was purchased?

    Purchase price adjusted for inflation?

Price if it were to be sold now? What is the average price per barrell of the oil stored in the strategic petroleum reserve?
The release of reserves would reduce the avg price. Speculation in market would also judge if gov't was commited to releasing en masse. Opec would lower production driving price up again %26amp; world economic pressure would force status quo be resumed. Strategic reserves will remain untapped. Gas prices are high due to rediculous taxes placed on fuel, not because of per barrel cost.

Was it really necessary for the Bush Administration to say that we will add more oil to the stratigic reserve?

Nice to see a one day gain of $2.48 a barrel.

Is this a game to people in Washington or are they just wanting to line pockets or jobs when theirs ends in two years? Was it really necessary for the Bush Administration to say that we will add more oil to the stratigic reserve?

  • Wouldn't it be a great time to double or even triple America's strategic oil reserve?

YESWouldn't it be a great time to double or even triple America's strategic oil reserve?
If it were a simple matter of acquiring said oil, one transaction and done, ';perhaps';, but it isn't that simple.

The oil reserve is a real, tangible thing. It exists, and by existing, it has to be somewhere.

Where it exists is in various large tanks, and I suppose the average one is about thirty feet high, and round, with a thirty foot diameter. The actual dimensions don't matter, but the point is, we don't simply have those sitting empty.

To add to the reserve means that we either increase expenditure on renting such tanks from private owners, or we spend money and build them, possibly including buying more land to build them on.

Maybe that would be a great idea as part of stimulating the economy, but with the National Debt already leaving ten trillion as a distant memory, we should consider the cost to hold onto it, not just the cost to acquire it.Wouldn't it be a great time to double or even triple America's strategic oil reserve?
America's obsession with oil will last only as long as the oil lasts. Maybe you haven't heard, but oil reserves are running low, and it not as easy to find anymore. Oil has gotten America into trouble, like in Iraq. I find it a complete waste of time to remain wholly dependent on a resource that is running out fast, is becoming harder to obtain, and which is not renewable. Wouldn't it be better to continue to develop alternative fuel sources instead of doggedly hanging on to something that has done more harm than good?

In Mexico, the plant that turns out Silverados is closing down for good. Apparently no one wants to buy a 12 cylinder gas-guzzler like that anymore. Is the American auto industry unable to understand that their insistence in producing bigger and more fuel consuming cars has brought them to the point that they now have to beg the government to bail them out?

No. It is not a good time to double or triple reserves of something that is passe.
Yep, it would be great but I doubt it will happen. By raising the reserve we would only placing more in storage, not in the cracker, therefore not at the pump. The trick is a better system of motivation, I'll admit, but there we have a problem too, just like we do with the small car and truck. Has anyone ever tried to pull a 15,000 pound payload with a small truck with a 4 cylinder motor. If you can get it rolling you're lucky. If you can get it to your destination you are luckier, especially without blowing the motor.

Another problem with the alternate power system is expense. Not all of our citizens can afford to purchase a new vehicle. I don't know the exact numbers but about 90 % of the cars on the road are over 5 years old. Of that 90% maybe 70 % are over 10 years old. Get my drift. Most people would like to have a new car but can't afford it.

    Time for a different plan.
Karen you're an idiot. The fact you stated that the Chevy 1/2 ton has 12 cylinders confirms it. Look at the sales data, people where buying up ';gas guzzling'; trucks and SUV's like candy up until 2-3 years ago, when gas prices really spiked. In fact even the mighty Toyota got sucked in into the truck craze...tundra anyone. Japan makes predominantly small cars, the oil crunch was an event that worked in their favor. Also its not like the B3 never made fuel sipping cars...focus or cavalier...remember those. More and more people demanded trucks and suv's, for ford gm and chrysler made them. I bet everyone in this country knows someone with a ford explorer.....point proven. what is making matters worse right now is that people go the buy a car and they can't get financed. We gave the bank billions to free up lending, and yet no one is getting financed for car purchases.

now the answer the question at hand. I think we should pump up the reserve. Prices are down right now, and thats not going to last. So get it whiles it cheap. Also, the use of oil/ gas will never go away completely. There will never be hybrid or electrical construction equipment to replace what we have. trains will always be diesel electric (which what we should do with cars btw) and heavy machinery will always need to be greased.
Not really. We currently have about a two months supply of oil in reserve. If we tripled it, that would be six months..... we need to get off of oil and come up with an alternative that is cheap and abundent.
    Yes.

And, more importantly, it's a good time to phase in a higher gasoline tax and a carbon tax, while prices are low.
I think it would be, but I also think we should drill our own oil and not send BILLIONS to other nations.
Better that, than doubling or tripling the national debt.

Did you know Irak is the second biggets reserve of oil in the world?

    4. Iraq - 115 billionDid you know Irak is the second biggets reserve of oil in the world?

That's an estimate, no one knows for certain. I don't think any rational honest person is under the impression that our PRIMARY reason for the attack was oil.
Yes i know this.......and Iran is the third biggest reserve of Oil( next target for US).......and this is not a coincidence that US army is there, this is all ';planned'; ! ! And this is the reason you can see the difference in treating North Korea and Iran for the same crime !! Bush want to talk to North Korea but intended to attack Iran.....what a hypocricy !!
did you know that is why we are at war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The interest of the west and the States in the affairs of the Middle East certainly stems from the oil factor. But, that is not the only factor fueling the America involvement. They perceive the religious fundamentalism as a affront to the global order and their national interest.

How much oil do we have in reserves and how long would it last?

Why couldn't we use the oil in our reserve while finding alternatives for oil, also, to lower the usuage of gas, I would be will to go on gas rationing as lone as my husband had enough to get to work. I just wonder how much oil we would say and people stayed home one day a week. As it is now, we can barely afford gas and we are so called middle class going down quickly to lower glass. You have people like my daughter and brother that barely make enough to live on. They can't afford the gas prices. I think the government could do a lot but they are too crooked and don't want to give up the money everyone is making. We as a nation have stood by far too long on too many issuses., Gas, illegal aliens, child abuse. We can no longer be silentHow much oil do we have in reserves and how long would it last?
Our oil reserves are for emergency only. And they wouldn't last long at all anyway. So, to use them really wouldn't do anyone any good.

I have already cut my gas consumption by about half or more. I just don't go places anymore unless I need to and then I try to bundle my errands or trips. I think a lot of people are doing this too.

The way things work though make it impossible to find alternative energy sources until gas prices make it worthwhile to use other sources of energy. It will indeed make some middle class people become lower class. But we put ourselves into this situation in several ways. One way is because we decided to buy cheaper things that are made in China. Now China has a growing middle class, and they too want nicer things in life, such as cars, plumbing, electricity. So, China is using up a lot more oil than it used to. And China has about 4 times as many people as we do. India is coming along in the same way too. And their population is somewhere around 3 times ours, I think.

We will now be having to share more of the earth's oil and other natural resouces with the rest of the world. We currently use 25% of it. Yet our population is only about 5% of the world's population. (my figures aren't perfect, but are close enough for my point). We are going to have to be happy with less than 25% of it, or go to war to get it. And Bush is already doing that for us. Though this is not a wise action.

What we should have been doing for years is what Germany and some other northern European countries have been doing is using more and more solar power. There's plenty of sun to go around everywhere and it's abundant, and won't give out for at least another million or so years. How much oil do we have in reserves and how long would it last?
ITS OLDUVAI CLIFF MAN, OLDUVAI CLIFF. GET PREPARED, MY POWER'S SHORTING OUT ALREADY.
Its funny that you say your daughter %26amp; brother can barely make enough to live on, but did you know that 60% of the world lives on less 2 dollars per day?

Im sure there are 4 billion people out there that would love to trade places with them. People who are wondering where their next meal is coming from and dont have the ';luxury'; of worrying about gas prices because they could never even afford a cheap broken down car even if they saved their money for years. People who dont even have electricity in their homes and people that have to go walk a mile to get water from the community well.

People who live in this country do not have a rough life. We've just been spoiled for so long we are crying now that our toys are not as obtainable. Kind of like the spoiled rich kid that cries because he only got a 100k dollar porche for his 16th b-day and he wanted a 300k dollar ferrari. We definately see how spoiled he is because we are poorer than him. But we cant see it in ourselves because most of us have never seen real poverty.

I mean even homeless people in the U.S. make at least 20 bucks per day recylcing cans from digging thru trash cans. thats 10 times more than 60% of the rest of the world.

When will we drill !?
I hope it's true. That would be great.

Edit: It seems that the environmentalists aren't really concerned about the possible extinction of a bug or plant they really want to end the use of fossil fuels all together. The more painful it is on the American people the better. The only logic I see in not tapping our reserves is to make sure we have oil when everyone else runs out.Massive Oil Deposit Could Increase US reserves by 10 times ! When will we drill !?
Yes, and if a frog had wings......!
I do believe in protecting the environment, BUT we need more energy sources or we will all be living in poverty....so we must balance ALL needs and DRILL,DRILL, DRILL
Until that runs out and then what? The idea is to reduce fossil fuel use, but I guess your selfish retardation missed that bit: 'As long as MY car is full of petrol and I can heat my home, f*ck the world!' Your attitude in a nutshell.

Do you think the US should release oil from the strategic oil reserve to help lower prices...?

    yes

but i think that the government should outlaw all non-hybrid vehicles because we have the techonology to help the planet, so why not start now?Do you think the US should release oil from the strategic oil reserve to help lower prices...?
    how stupid. Report Abuse

We are going to have to become self-sufficient as a country and not have to depend on all these other countries for our needs. We keep having manufacturers move oversees and one of these days it is going to come back to bite us in the rear. We need to be drilling for oil and flooding the markets to the point where prices will have to come down. Also if I remember correctly the hurricanes destroyed a refinery which also helped gas prices to go up because they didn't have enough to refine the oil.
When the Hunt brothers attempted to corner the market on silver, the US government flooded the market with silver, bankrupting the Hunts. I believe that flooding the market with cheap fuel would break the monopoly of big oil and force the prices down. Legal action, in concert with the market flood, would drive the nails into the coffin.
No, because it would barely lower the prices at all. Same with suspending the taxes you pay per gallon. If they suspend those taxes, they'll simply find another way to tax us to make up for the loss.

I think they should further investigate and penalize the oil companies. Their record profits are proof of their raping and pillaging, IMHO.
I would hope it could, but there's about as much of chance of that happening is there is that the President will get the next economic stimulus package going before people starve or lose their jobs because they can't afford to drive to work...
I think they're trying to drive up oil prices in a desperate effort to counter the global deflationary storm that is brewing. They don't fear inflation. They fear deflation.
NO they should increase the production of electric vehicles and tell Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries to kiss their a s s.
    no.
NO, instead we need to get rid of the Oil Lobby and the Auto Industry Lobby. We could put them in prison for trying to ruin the earth !
It would only be a temporary fix
No. One has to find out why crude oil prices are getting so astronomical
Well yes but what if we piss of our middle eastern buddies and need oil. Well we just drained our nations safty net.
Whatever it takes to help the people
Yeah, but 58 days isn't much.

And that's what happens when you have a Democrat congress.
no, i think we should be less dependent on oil, so we would not have to buy as much.
    in a word, NO
    yes.
no,wall street spectators should stop trying to make a buck at our expense.

Is it true that there is a massive oil reserve under Utah and states like that?

it sounded really stupid so i was wonderingIs it true that there is a massive oil reserve under Utah and states like that?
From the story I saw on the discovery channel or one of those type channels one night, tes, and huge reserve at that, but it is hard to get to and of course the government is fighting with private companies about who will get the most profits for drilling, and processing and such. At one point a few years ago, some company did actually try to get things going and an entire town sprang up from men who worked on the project with their families. But the project was short lived when the discovery came of how difficult the drilling was going to be to get to the actual reserve because it sits under a mountain. The town is pretty much a ghost town now.Is it true that there is a massive oil reserve under Utah and states like that?
I met a man who retired from the Oil industry when major oil began being imported from the Middle East. His company decided they could make more money importing than pumping in the US so they closed down wells in Texas. Report Abuse

Recently they drilled many wells in Alaska then just capped them off to use for later when profits got higher I was told by a man whose friend came back after going up to drill oil wells up there. Report Abuse

There is a massive amount of oil in Alaska, and even more in the Gulf of Mexico. Environmentalists oppose the exploitation of both these resources.

As for Utah, they have a lot of coal and oil shale. Oil shale can be turned into petroleum, but it is a dirty and expensive process, and the environmentalists oppose that as well.
I don't know but we should rip Utah apart til we find it...
There is a massive crude oil reserve at the Elk Hills facility near Bakersfield California. It was originally intended as an emergency reserve for military use in the event of war, it has been there since WW II. Now that a large percentage of Navy vessels are nuclear powered the need for military crude was drastically reduced, so Congress signed the reserves over to private oil interests. It is there, ready to pump, but has been untouched since the 1974 Arab oil embargo. There is estimated to be a 250 year supply there for the U.S. at today's fossil fuel consumption rate.

It is also an item of interest that the Alyeska (Alaska) pipeline, flowing at 96% capacity in the late 70's is now flowing at 30% capacity, but the number of producing wells on the North Slope has over doubled. Yes we have untapped reserves that are being ignored, not due to environmentalist, but to keep the price of gas high. We are getting a systematic screwing by the government and the oil companies, through Democrat and Republican administrations, THAT is the power of the U.S. oil cartel. Forget OPEC... they are a bunch of squabbling 3rd world wannabes... The existence of massive deposits in Utah, Montana and Wyoming is sheer speculation, no facts to back it up.
u are not alone with the idea that we are mislead in a big way, i have very little doubts that the whole country could be sold to anyone at anytime for the bucks and let your imagination bite on that, cause i don't like any rich people running our country and never did, they would sell u out in a heart beat and i think that is why the border went down is that we got sold out, along time ago toooooo
It is absolutely true that there is a massive oil reserve locked among rocks in the Western US, mostly under Colorado. I have read estimates in the mainstream media that it contains 3 times as much oil as exists in the entire Middle East. Nothing stupid or crazy about it, it's true.

The problem is, the oil is contained in shale in such a way that it's difficult and expensive to extract. So far it has not been economically viable to extract that oil, even though it's right there in the ground. Companies have been working on and off for decades (whenever oil gets expensive) trying to exploit the oil but they've not yet been successful.

There's a newspaper column below about that -- you can learn more by Googling Colorado Shale Oil. Meanwhile, Xeno277 has a point. I don't think it's intentional government policy, but it does make strategic sense to drain the rest of the world of oil while we can, and leave as much of our own oil untapped as long as possible.
Sure it is...and my butt is made out of gold, as well.
An engineer on another website wrote that the massive oil reserve under the rockies was way too costly at this time to extract.

With his limited knowledge of economics he did think that it would always remain too costly to extract.
It's all about control my friend -- buy and use the world's oil while we can. When the world runs out of oil, we will still have the untapped reserves!!

Who has the oil now? The U.S.!! It's an unwritten and undocumented code that exists on the highest level, that is why we don't drill in all the places we know we can.

  • When earth oil reserve can be exhaust?

current estimates 50 years or less

the jury is still out on this one...

Does this help any? When earth oil reserve can be exhaust?
not for a long time....I saw an old newpaper from 1915 saying that the world was soon going to be out of oil

If we stopped importing oil and used our oil reserve for one month, the price would drop.?

My dear friend, oil prices will never go down ever, we are paying the price, and the oil Co. knows we will pay if it even goes higher. Thank the rich for buying Hummers and the gas burners, they have the money, who cares about the common person, so what if they cant pay for it , they II work for a dollar an hour to eat. Think about it. GOD Bless you.If we stopped importing oil and used our oil reserve for one month, the price would drop.?
It upsets me, because I know we have have plenty of oil of our own right here in the US, why pay them and cost us for what we already have.

There are people contacting me and many others, now to lease mineral rights to drill and they are all over Oklahoma and other places. It is stupid of them

and they just want to stay on a good side with those people.====If we stopped importing oil and used our oil reserve for one month, the price would drop.?
    NOPE.

the price is indexed to demand.

get ready for 200$ barrel oil and 7-9$ gallon gas in USA.

the us gov in its delusion has no control of prices.

we tried that in the 70's we had 2 hour long line for gas on every other day and black market gasoline.

wait until India and China step up to 'our lifestyle' we'll be sweating in summer and cold in winter in our houses.

The oil reserve is becoming empty in 20 ~ 30 years, how human civilization survive without oil?

Oil is used in almost in everywhere, but is is becoming empty. Then, the car cannot move, airplane cannot fly, power no more. Does this mean, we are going backward to the old time when there was no oil?The oil reserve is becoming empty in 20 ~ 30 years, how human civilization survive without oil?
A huge oil deposit has been discovered in Colorado that is supposed to be more than in all of the middle east. Besides that fact, France in manufacturing cars that run on compressed air. Hopefully, the U.S. will have them as well at some point. The oil reserve is becoming empty in 20 ~ 30 years, how human civilization survive without oil?
Oh, come on! We will not suddenly being thrown back to an age of far more primitive time. There is always something to do to help us survive what ever. Electric cars are improving daily and will save tons of oil.
According to my calculations correctly all 'em death people burried less than or equal to 200yrs. ago should have graduately turn in to good fosil oil by 20-30 yrs. from now for continue drilling.
Life as we know it will definitely change. Ethanol is not a good option, because it will still take oil to run tractors, and grow the stuff anyway, same thing with other inventions,it would take energy to mass produce them. You should watch a doc. called ';the end of suburbia';you can probably google it. It is kind of depressing though. IN 1978 it is said that United States oil reserves hit thier peak, now experts say the world has hiit its peak.
Necessity is the mother of invention. We'll figure something out, how hard is it to make 4-8 pistons move up and down without gasoline? There are ways if we get creative.
Well, life as you know it will not be the same. We

could even live as the Amish do now (no cars, no

    electricity, no fancy electronic equipment).
Yeah, I heard we will be out of oil in 20 years too.

    In 1978.
There is other ways to get oil in the United States. You can make gas from corn, yes we may be proud to pick up some of the old days ideas. We have been use to luxury most of our life. We wouldn't be able to survive without a lot of the stuff we take for granite. Old saying you never miss the water until the well runs dry. Think about us living without city water, no electric, no air condition, cooking on wood , no TV, washing your clothes in the creek, setting by candle light. I could go on and on.queen bee
I remember twenty years ago hearing the same thing. I think oil will definitely run out, but in the next thirty years, no.
Think of all the scrap metal that will become available! Solar, wind and hydro electric will fill some of the gap, and ethanol is also a contender along with oil shale to replace oil. The bigger problem for the whole world concerns the products made from oil from plastics to pharmaceuticals and a whole lot more. Is it possible that by the time oil runs out we will have already darkened the skies and destroyed the ozone layer and we will all fry like fish in a greased pan?
    No it's not.
The term ';fossil fuel'; may be a misnomer. Some scientists now believe that some oil is directly produced through geological process rather than as a consequence of dead biomass being exposed to geological processes.

Seems that the Earth is probably producing oil even today.

That does not bode well for the Global Warming idiots...er advocates. It's likely they鈥檒l still be chasing their tails well through the next ice age (and yes, Al Gore will still be living in his giant mansion).
    yes
hi...if you have seen mad max...you may not think it so bizzare
    Ethanol, look it up.
