Shouldn't we pressure our U.S. representatives & the president to release the Strategic Oil Reserves?

My understanding is that this will drive away the ';speculators';

and that the speculators are responsible for small increases

in cost per barrel. Also why not hold up the cash subsidies

to the oil industry, until they agree to increase production?

They've all refused to build any new refineries here in the USA.

Also we should threaten to cut off all forms of aid to all

OPEC nations. Shouldn't the people put some REAL pressure

on all the elected officials to accomplish all the above. AND

PLEASE, no b$ about alternative energy that will take a decade or more to have any real impact. We need

IMMEDIATE action. Alternative energy is a totally different subject. Use of electric cars is interesting, but the electricity

needed to charge those cars will just mean more $$ paid to

the electric utility company. Electric companies will be needing

MORE coal and MORE oil to keep up, and each of our utility

bills will increase. Please stick to the question of the Strategic

Oil Reserve.Shouldn't we pressure our U.S. representatives %26amp; the president to release the Strategic Oil Reserves?
Well the SOR's aren't that big. Those are there in case we end up in WW3 and are completely cut off from any other supply. This means we can still kick some ***. About the refineries, from what I understand there are a lot of global welfare groups that actively prevent us from being able to build more. Combine that with the fact that Mr. G.W. is a complete idiot and probably gets a huge kickback from the oil companies, theres not likely to be a solution to this problem until we kick him out of the white house.Shouldn't we pressure our U.S. representatives %26amp; the president to release the Strategic Oil Reserves?
We should definitely let up on the SOR. Nobody makes enough money to pay for the damn gas. Gas goes up, everything goes up and pay stays the same. I'm angry.
Yes,because not releasing only benefits Bushit and the oil interests
Where to start.

1. We don't have a shortage of gasoline, thats not why the price is high.

We don't have a shortage of refining capacity.

We did during the last hurricane season, but thats because they had to shut down the refineries about to be hit.

2. We do not give foreign aid to any Opec nations.

So just what would we cut off, to force them to produce more oil ?

Plus, most of the oil we import, comes from non opec nations.

Canada, nigeria, mexico

Releasing the oil reserves would just have a short term effect,

We could get just as good an effect, by suspending all gasoline tax's nationwide.
And then what?

Use it and you don't have it to fight wars with, or keep industry going if there is an embargo.

Use it and people will forget that oil is not a renewable resource.

You have also forgotten that electricity can be produced by nuclear and hydroelectric plants. We could always place the plants in uninhabited areas and use a grid system to spread it around.
