Is Obama wanting to tap our strategic oil reserve, just to boost his campaign?

';Obama's plan would release light oil from the emergency oil stockpile and replace it later with heavier crude. ...';

';';The strategic oil reserve exists for America's national security strategy -- not Barack Obama's election strategy. The last release of oil from the strategic reserve came in response to Hurricane Katrina, but the only crisis that has developed since Barack Obama last rejected this idea two months ago is a slide in his poll numbers,'; Bounds said. ...

It is just one more lie to garner votes. It is tranparent, and only the blind (or blinded) won't see it. Here's another news item about it. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080804/ap_o鈥?/a>

Obama is backsliding faster than a Baptist at a beer joint. Is Obama wanting to tap our strategic oil reserve, just to boost his campaign?
Tapping the SPR would bring immediate relief on oil prices.

';The petroleum reserve is capable of releasing about 4 million barrels a day. It's unclear what impact such release might have on global oil prices, or costs of gasoline at the pump. But a clear signal by the United States to use its emergency reserve to a significant extent could put downward pressure on oil markets at least for a time, energy experts say.'; NY Times.

Drilling the OCS wouldn't help for 10 years.
Mr ';say anything'; Obama has no idea about what to do or how to do it. His demagoguery has no limits. He has proven himself to be a world class liar without credibility on any issue he claims to support. One simply cannot believe him. When you do, he will suddenly switch positions for the next audience.
I don't know who in their right mind thinks this is ground breaking economic theory. Sounds to me like a perfect scenario for surrender.

And if it makes you feel better, B.O. says now that he has a plan to get us off oil in 10 years. We we're planning to be off oil by then anyway.

Neither of these ideas helps us now.

Every single one of his plans that I have read sounds like just another scheme to get votes. you would have to be a fool to think that his ';plans'; would actually work. Something I learned about politicians is that you should always base your vote on their voting record and always assume that what they say is a complete lie unless they have their voting record to back it up.
Come on, EVERYTHING he does or says is to get votes. He hasn't ';changed'; his agenda. He simply says whatever it takes to get votes. Rest assured he hasn't changed his thinking and support for all the radicals that he has always associated with.
It's especially stupid when tensions with Iran could flare and they could cut off their oil supply. Which is 40 percent of the world's oil supply! The man needs to realize that people are not that stupid and can see that he is pandering.
possibly, just like the white politician who introduced legislation for the government to apologize for slavery. too bad there are no slaves left to apologize too. it's all political bs
Obama states that releasing 70 million barrels will have an impact, but drilling for 70 billion barrels will not.

Can't make this stuff up. I am humored by it.
He has no strategy and has no experience (nothing new there, He only listens to one: gallup poll. If it fails, then he will promise $1000 to buy your votes.
Barry wants to win. If the strategic oil reserve can grease the skids for that, sure. He'd do it.
does mccain support offshore drilling just to boost his campaign?
If you haven't noticed, oil runs lots of things.
Buy high - Sell Low.
yep, he is just responding to polls #s.
Yes, he is a douche bag
yes and because he knows it will work cuz hes a genius
nope
no
fer sher
