It was said all the cars could not be used after 50 years because the world will run out of oil. Just want to know if this is true. How many years can the reserve of oil, gas and equivelant in the whole world be used for?
how many years the worlds oil supply can last is going to depend on the rate of consumption and on the supply. both are open questions right now, so its impossible to come up with a real answer. over the past few years alternative enrgy using solar power and natural gas have started to take off. However at the same time countries like India and China are continuing very rapid industrialization, and therefore demanding ever increasing amounts of oil to run their economies. Therefore whether demand will continue to increase or finally begin to decline is going to depend a lot on whether China and India embrace alternative energy technologies or industrialize the same way europe and the US did, via oil.
the othere point to make is that we really dont know how much oil our planter really hides. Russia alone has untapped reserves that can run the worlds econmy for decades, this oil and natural gas is found in the frozen permofrost of Siberia, and has yet to be extracted or even fully explored. then there are the vast oceans which may still have untapped or undiscovered reserves. The bottom line is that there is a lot of yet untapped oil, and there is a lot of yet undiscovered oil. Also as technology improves, our extraction methods may make it easier to extract oil which will increase supply, at the same time the way in which oil is used my increase the efficiency of the oil. Either way, oil is likely to stay as the worlds main energy supply for a long time to come for one simple reason: there is a lot of it and it can be extracted relatively easily. if oil ever begins running out or becomes scarce due to a very high demand, we will know because the price of oil will shoot up, and at that point atenrative energy may become more attractive. How many years can the reserve of oil, gas and equivelant in the whole world be used for?
Jimmy Carter said we'd run out of oil in 1986.
Don't believe everything you hear.
Nobody can calculate that, same like the weather. China just came into the game gobbling up more and more. The USA has so far been the biggest user, using about 12-16 million gallons a day from 26 - 28 millions produced. Most of the oils are left in form of tar sand, which needs more energies to get to, then its worth. Politicians calculate that reserves in, not telling you, that they are totally useless. The question is not, when we run out - its, when the day comes, the world needs 30,1 million gallons a day and can only produce 30 million. That happened a couple of times for short periods and it was catastrophic. Ones it will be a for a longer period of time, lets say a year, we will have civil war in the western world, because of total economic breakdown. .
It will go on as long as the Earth is. Because it isn't a fossil derived. Oil is the result of micro-organises that consume rock in low regions and make a hydrocarbon. Cause the gas station won't tell you that, MRI will..,
It depends. All the oil reserves have not been discovered yet. Also, as the prices go up, more and more alternatives will become viable, thereby reducing the consumption. Best guess would be 40 to 80 years.
what - do you really think that the oil companies will really tell the truth
