According to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy for 2005, China had 17.1 billion barrels of proven reserves of oil at the end of 2004. China also had 2.23 trillion cubic meters of natural gas reserves at that time. China's share of total world reserves was 1.4% of the oil, and 1.2% of the natural gas.
In contrast to China's share of world reserves, China consumed 8.2% of world oil production, and 1.5% of the world's natural gas production, during 2004.
