Did you know that North America has greater oil reserves than the Middle East?

Canada has the world's second largest ';proven'; reserves, and Canada, the US and Mexico easily surpass Saudi Arabia and Iran combined.

Add to that recent huge discoveries by BP in the Carribbean and oil shales and oil sands Congress won't let us develop, with ANWR, and you have a source that could end the Middle East's domination of the market almost over night.

How would you like for North America to be the world's premier source of energy through oil, natural gas, AND alternative sources?

All it takes is one president with a vision and a Congress that isn't so hostile to America.Did you know that North America has greater oil reserves than the Middle East?
Trouble is... that oil is like you say in shales, basically that means it is IN rocks. Not something you just pump and process you must mine it. That makes that oil extremely expensive. For that oil to be commercially productive, the barrel must be sold at about $140

BTW at that price we are much better off with alternative fuels.Did you know that North America has greater oil reserves than the Middle East?
Part of the problem is people with the whole NIMBY attitude (Not In My Back Yard). We also have the environmentalists protesting for the poor animals in nature.

Alaska does have a very large reserve we won't tap into bacuse of the Environmentalists, even though it has been proven that it will not adversly affect the wild life.

The Gulf of Mexico actually has the largest oil reserve in the world, but unfortunately we do not have the technology to access it.
Yes I know this. I also know we do not have the technology currently to access most of these reserves. The oil reserves in Canada are in extremely sensitive arctic ecosystems. Destruction of those systems would have world wide negative consequences. Apparently I know more than you. It would take much more that any president or congress to get crude oil from these reserves.
It always surprises me when right-wing nuts talk about oil reserves in North America. If Republicans are so enthusiastic about not depending on the Middle-East for oil then why do so many of them support the war in Iraq?

Oh wait, nevermind, most of them would support a war in Argentina if it meant ';fighting the evil that attack us on September 11th!';
I did know this and it is upsetting that the government is trying to create energy independence with ';green'; technology. Guess what, green crap is expensive and inefficient while oil has worked pretty well so far.
1) Burn theirs up first.

2) Oil shale is a bogus argument. it takes 10 barrels of oil in energy to extract 1 barrel of oil from shale.

3) Yes, I knew this since the mid 60s when I was a geology major.
The oil that BP discovered is 35,000 feet down -- too expensive to drill for.

And all this oil contributes to global warming.
Yes but environmentalist will not let us drill it.
Yes I did that is a known fact ignored by 0bama, who would rather use our tax dollars to finance Brazil than allow us to develop our own resources
We certainly haven't attempted to exhaust any of it have we.
Yes I was aware of that. That is why I refer to the 'war for oil' parrots as idiots(among other things)..
You asked if I knew this, I say yes. Move on.
Use up theirs before we start using ours.

Be real what will those countries have after we suck up all their oil?
The belief of our government is this: He who has the last oil will dominate the world. We know we have plenty of oil to be captured here. We will continue to bargain for the rest of the worlds oil, until it is all but gone. Then, and only then, will we delve into our own hidden treasure. It doesn't matter what we pay for the oil of others. It doesn't matter if we lose millions of lives for the oil of others. We will never use our own until we absolutely HAVE to. Is this wrong? Maybe to you. But to a government, it is all about the possible future to come. What if there was a nuclear holocaust and only a handful of nations had survivors and America was one of them? If you understand the aftermath of this holocaust, we would have to depend on our own resources to survive. If we didn't have oil to capture for ourselves on our own soil, what would happen? Tree huggers are a convienent escape for the governments real objectives. You don't think they would be ignored if we really needed the oil here? C'mon.
