They've said they think worldwide oil demand is too high to be sustainable. Available supplies will be depleted in a relatively short period of time, and remaining supplies will be centers of increasing dispute until they're gone.





They don't want to become dependent for energy on such a resource. They want to sell it, not burn it, and use the money to build an infrastructure that will serve them when the oil is gone.





The idea of Iran as a threat is very exaggerated. Even if they did build nuclear weaopons, they would be incapable of challenging either the US or Israel. If they wanted to engage in ';nuclear terrorism,'; they've likely had the materials necessary to do that for many years.





The US casts them as a villain, for the excuse it provides them to maintain and extend their military presence in the region.





The demand that they unconditionally suspend enrichment is an unreasonable one, contrary to their rights under the NPT, and they are unlikely to accede to it.





This ensures the standoff can be maintained indefinitely, and can be used as an excuse for military action at any time (if or when the US' credit rating recovers sufficiently from prior wars, for example). This is likely the reason the US insists on making that demand.
I can guarantee that Iran has no intention to use nuclear power for power. that country has been very unstable for 2000 years and they are not going to be stable all of a sudden. The first chance they get, they will build a nuke and drop it right on Israels head. If there are people on here who actually believe that Iran would use it for peaceful means, you know nothing about their culture and you are living in fairy tale land telling yourselves lies. The REAL world is an evil and scary place and Iran is not on the peaceful countries list. By the way, ANTIMATT..., It isn't the conservatives or the U.S. that pushes people around, it is a global effort. Russia and most of Europe has many nuclear power plants that are used for energy purposes and the U.S. and conservatives don't say a thing about that because those countries are stable and are not interested in blowing another country off of the face of the map. Have you learned anything about middle eastern politics or their culture. you have to understand that they don't think like the west and their culture is extremely different.
Because oil doesn't last forever, and you can't menace other countries with barrels of oil, but you definitely can with nuclear warheads, get what I am saying?
You who come from the land of hypocrites that have most of the world's arms, what right do you have to tell others to disarm?
Because they must be smart enough to see that the Carbon Economy is going to be dead in the water. Once the oil runs out they will need energy.

Iran has every right what it wants research technology which has economic or military use.
